Essaouira, once called Mogador, is an old fort and fishing port located two and a half hours outside Marrakech. As you wonder around the narrow, white-wall maze of the Medina you’ll discover Moroccan treasures, works of art, friendly locals, French pastries and fresh sea food brought moments before.
Essaouira has several points of interest:
- the fishing port where fishermen have their catch displayed for sale
- the citadel of Skala Kasbah
- the Portuguese castle Castelo Real, which dates back to 1506.
- harbor stalls or at a local café terraces
- a crescent beach that is popular for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing
This trip is the most appreciated day trip for tourist. Many even return to the peaceful town for a longer stay.
You will be picked up from your hotel around 8:15am. During the two-and-a-half-hour drive, you will see argan trees and maybe even spot some goats climbing those trees (it’s a real thing).
The bus will stop at local cooperative where women will show you how to make Argan oil (called liquid gold) and showcase the delicious foods and amazing cosmetic products they make out of Argan.
You’ll continue to Essaouira, arriving around what time? You will then be set loose in the city to explore and find lunch per your own interests. At the end of your time in Essaouira, you will meet the bus driver and travel back to Marrakech where you will be dropped off back at your hotel around what time.
